The date for a meeting to decide on a planning application to build 600 new homes and an IKEA superstore at New Monks Farm has been announced.
Adur District Council’s Planning Committee will sit on 18th July 2018 at the Sir Robert Woodard Academy in Lancing. The meeting, solely to decide the New Monks issue, starts at 7pm.
The venue has been switched from the Shoreham Centre to the school gym because of its proximity to the planning site and the capacity to allow more members of the public to observe the debate.In addition to 600 homes and IKEA superstore, the application from New Monks Farm Development, a subsidiary of Brighton & Hove Albion FC, also includes the provision of a new roundabout on the A27, a country park, land for a school and a community hub.It would also see the relocation and expansion of the Withy Patch Gypsy and Traveller site.
The initial plans for New Monks Farm were submitted last summer. Since then the applicants have made changes to the application in February and after listening to feedback, further alterations have now been put forward.
- revised IKEA drawings, which include an increase in the amount of green roof;
- changes to the north elevation of the IKEA building;
- improvements to the River Adur footpath;
- revised residential drawings
Public responses to these alterations will be included in the report to the committee. The application for the site, located to the east of Mash Barn estate and to the north of Brighton & Hove Albion’s training ground and next to Shoreham Airport, is 1,200 pages long. It is described as a hybrid, which means some aspects are for full permission; while others are for outline, which requires a further detailed application at a later date. The residential part of the plan includes 30% affordable homes, which is in line with the recently adopted Adur Local Plan.
There will be up to 500 seats at the venue on the night. The public notice on the meeting and information about how the public can speak on the night will be published on the Adur District Council website on Friday 22nd June 2018.
